Wavesat Selects Azimuth Systems' ACE™ MX for Testing of its Broadband Wireless Family of Products
Global Mobile Broadband Leader Taps Azimuth's Channel Emulation Capabilities
ACTON, MA - February 9, 2009 - Azimuth Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless broadband test equipment and channel emulators for Wi-Fi, WiMAX, LTE and 2G/3G cellular technologies, today announced that Wavesat Inc. a leading supplier of broadband wireless semiconductor solutions, has selected Azimuth's ACE™ MX Universal Frequency MIMO Channel Emulator for testing of its Odyssey™ broadband wireless product family. Combining industry-leading channel emulation capabilities in a flexible and scalable solution, the ACE MX will enable Wavesat to conduct efficient, automated and repeatable testing of its semiconductor solutions - ensuring high quality performance and significantly improving the costs and time associated with testing.
The latest generation of broadband wireless solutions enabling the delivery of wireless, carrier-grade WiMAX and LTE services and products employ orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and advanced antenna techniques such as Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO). As a result, Wavesat turned to Azimuth's ACE MX Channel Emulator to ensure accurate and repeatable laboratory characterization of RF environmental effects such as multipath and fading on the conformance, performance and interoperability of OFDM and MIMO-based systems.
"Wavesat's Odyssey product family allows customers to keep pace with rapidly evolving broadband wireless technologies and to migrate seamlessly to future 4G technologies such as LTE," said Victor Menasce, vice president of engineering at Wavesat. "It was only natural that we partner with Azimuth - one of the leading providers of wireless broadband test equipment and channel emulators. We're confident that the ACE MX will not only save Wavesat the significant time and costs associated with manual testing, but it will also help to ensure ultimate satisfaction from our carrier and mobile device manufacturer customers."
The ACE MX uses advanced digital signaling processing technology to enable real-time testing of MIMO, MISO, SISO and SIMO wireless devices in a multipath fading environment - providing dynamic channel emulation that scales for testing single channel devices up to MIMO 4X4 devices. The ACE MX also features dedicated bi-directional channel modeling that can accurately emulate real world wireless over-the-air conditions in both the downlink and uplink paths simultaneously.
"As service providers, semiconductor designers and system vendors utilize OFDM and MIMO-based systems such as WiMAX and LTE, channel emulation is rapidly being recognized as the key to reliable conformance, performance and interoperability testing," said George Reed, vice president of marketing and product management at Azimuth Systems. "We're excited to partner with Wavesat, a global leader in mobile broadband, to help them deliver reliable, advanced semiconductor solutions that allow the world's leading carrier and mobile device manufacturers to deploy future-proof broadband services and products."
