DAMC-FMC2ZUP Carrier with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale Architecture

The DAMC-FMC2ZUP Carrier is designed to deliver powerful computing performance for advanced data acquisition and control systems. Built around the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC XCZU11EG device, the board integrates both programmable logic and a high performance processing system. This architecture allows engineers and researchers to combine hardware acceleration with software driven control in a single platform.

The programmable logic section of the system offers 653 thousand logic cells and 2920 digital signal processing slices. These resources enable complex signal processing algorithms, high speed data handling, and custom hardware acceleration. In addition, the integrated ARM Cortex A53 processor operates at 1.5 GHz and provides a powerful embedded computing environment capable of running Linux based operating systems.

FMC and FMC+ Expansion Capabilities

The DAMC-FMC2ZUP Carrier includes two FMC expansion sockets that provide extensive connectivity for additional hardware modules. One socket supports FMC+ technology with high speed transceivers capable of operating at data rates up to 28.21 gigabits per second. The second socket includes a standard HPC connector with transceivers capable of operating up to 16.375 gigabits per second.

These expansion capabilities allow users to integrate specialized data acquisition cards, communication modules, or custom instrumentation hardware. All high pin count and low pin count interface lines are connected, providing a flexible platform for a wide range of scientific and industrial applications.

High Speed Connectivity and Memory

The DAMC-FMC2ZUP Carrier provides advanced communication interfaces to support high speed data transfer within MTCA systems. The board connects directly to the MTCA.4 backplane, where PCI Express interfaces operate in Gen 3.0 configuration with up to eight lanes. This allows efficient communication between the FPGA and host systems.

Two DDR4 memory interfaces are also included to support high performance data processing tasks. One memory bank provides 4 gigabytes of memory connected to the processing system, while another 1 gigabyte bank is connected to the programmable logic section. These memory resources allow the system to handle large data sets and complex processing workloads.

The board also includes Gigabit Ethernet connectivity through both the backplane and the front panel SFP+ interface. This connection can be used for network communication, application hosting, and development access.

Flexible Timing and System Integration

The DAMC-FMC2ZUP Carrier features an advanced clocking and timing architecture designed for precise synchronization. A sixteen channel bi directional cross point switch allows flexible routing of timing signals between the MTCA backplane and FMC modules. This capability ensures reliable synchronization across complex instrumentation systems.

The board also supports trigger inputs and outputs along with multiple timing clock lines. These features allow the system to coordinate data acquisition and control events across different modules in an experimental setup.

In addition to hardware capabilities, the board is compatible with modern FPGA development tools such as Vivado, High Level Synthesis tools, Petalinux, and other software environments. This support significantly reduces development time and enables rapid deployment of custom applications.
