SME-8320 Weight Electrode for Surface Resistivity Measurement
The SME-8320 Weight Electrode is a precision measurement accessory developed to support accurate surface resistivity and volume resistance testing of plate-shaped insulation materials. When paired with Hioki super megohmmeters, this electrode simplifies the evaluation of materials that are difficult to measure using standard probes, particularly those with coarse, uneven, or soft surfaces.
Unlike handheld electrodes, the SME-8320 Weight Electrode applies consistent pressure through its weighted structure, ensuring stable electrical contact with the test sample. This design significantly improves repeatability when measuring challenging materials such as carpets, insulating mats, polymer sheets, and other textured plate samples. The electrode assembly includes a main electrode, a counter ring electrode, and a positioning jig, allowing users to perform standardized measurements with minimal setup effort.
The electrode geometry is optimized for resistivity testing. The main electrode features a diameter of 50 mm, while the surrounding ring electrode has an inner diameter of 70 mm and an outer diameter of 80 mm. This configuration supports accurate surface resistivity calculations by controlling the current path across the material surface. For volume resistance measurements, the stable contact pressure ensures reliable current flow through the material thickness.
For measurements involving very high insulation resistance values, particularly above 10¹⁰ ohms, environmental noise and electrical hum can affect accuracy. To address this, the SME-8320 Weight Electrode is designed to be used in combination with the SME-8350 Shield Box. This pairing reduces external interference, enabling reliable testing even in electrically noisy environments such as production floors or shared laboratories.
The SME-8320 integrates seamlessly with Hioki super megohmmeters. When used with the SM7000 series, the Z5010 Conversion Adapter is required to ensure proper electrical connection. Once configured, the electrode becomes a dependable tool for materials evaluation, electrostatic countermeasure testing, quality assurance, and research applications.
