Description

High-Precision Quench Detection for Superconducting Magnets

The QDS Quench Detection System provides a fully configurable solution for protecting superconducting magnets from quench events. With four independent floating channels, each capable of handling up to 100 V, the QDS allows precise voltage measurements using multi-tap connections. Each channel features eleven selectable full-scale ranges, from ±20 mV for ultra-high resolution (2.5 nV) to ±20 V (2.4 μV), allowing users to adapt the system for a wide variety of magnets and experimental conditions.

Absolute and Differential Detection Modes

The QDS supports both absolute and differential quench detection. Detection windows can be configured from 1 millisecond to 1 second, enabling rapid identification of potential quench events while maintaining flexibility for long-term monitoring. The embedded FPGA performs real-time quench analysis, ensuring fast response and reliable protection.

Seamless Integration and Control

Equipped with a 10/100/1000 Mbit Ethernet interface, the QDS offers fast data transmission and simple remote control through TCP-IP or UDP protocols. Its internal firmware can be updated remotely, and a dedicated GUI software allows easy configuration of quench thresholds, time windows, and channel parameters. The system also provides interlock signals and status outputs for direct interfacing with magnet power supplies.

Persistent Switch Support and Reliable Operation

The QDS includes 12 V and 24 V outputs to drive Persistent Switches, ensuring full magnet protection and system stability. Its high-resolution 24-bit ADC sampling at 100 kHz, combined with robust signal conditioning, guarantees accurate monitoring even in high-noise environments.

This system is ideal for laboratories, research facilities, and industrial setups where precise, high-speed quench detection is essential for magnet safety and experimental accuracy.
