BiRa Systems Inc.

BiRa Systems Inc is a manufacturing small business that has been operating since 1972 and is well-established in the High Energy Physics community. A privately held company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, BiRa is a globally recognized manufacturer of quality designs developed in National Laboratories, known for their technological agility and outstanding customization capabilities and prized for their ability to develop innovative products through partnerships.

Because it is so difficult to get on the National Labs’ preferred/approved supplier lists, many well-recognized corporations such as Keysight Technologies, National Instruments, Ametek and TDK-Lambda, have made VAR agreements and partnered with BiRa Systems to supply the DOE Labs with the state-of-the-art Data Acquisition, Precision Magnet Current Power Supply Systems, and Test and Measurement Products.

BiRa is known for the quality and reliability of the hardware it manufactures, and achieved that reputation as a result of collaboration with leading scientists of the major DOE Labs. For nearly five decades, BiRa Systems’ legacy has been the “go-to” company when a new experiment or a long-term project is being developed in the labs.

Based on our unique position in the industry and close collaboration with many leading physics groups we have created a very successful VAR procurement division that caters as a sole supplier for all the daily operations of running the LANL and Sandia experiments.

    • Proven member of a modular Power Module family, more than 800 units are in service
    • Precision-regulated Bi-Polar output provides up to +12 to -12 Amps for Magnet loads.
    • Smooth operation through zero amps output current, no “Crossover” problems.
    • All 2510 MCOR12 Power Modules are identical and interchangeable.
    • Has two high-precision measurements of output current;
      • one is used to close the regulation control loop,
      • provides an independent monitoring signal to the Crate Interface Card.
    • Fault sensing circuitry in the module sets a Fault Latch which inhibits the output.
    • A (momentary) Sync input signal inhibits MOSFET switching when it is active (high);
      • this eliminate switching noise .
      • reduces power line noise during sensitive analog signal measurements.

    • Proven member of a modular Power Module family, more than 800 units are in service
    • Precision-regulated Bi-Polar output provides up to +30 to -30 Amps for Magnet loads.
    • Smooth operation through zero amps output current, no “Crossover” problems.
    • All 2510R30 MCOR30 Power Modules are identical and interchangeable
      • Programming Card is plugged into the replacement module.
    • Each channel has a critically-damped, LC noise filter with a cut-off frequency of about 8 kHz.
    • A 16-pin front panel diagnostics connector taps onto major circuit nodes which enables quick “inthe-crate” fault evaluation
