By applying impulse voltage to motor windings and analyzing the resulting response waveform, this tester enables precise diagnosis of winding insulation quality, even when the rotor is already assembled.

Precise Waveform Analysis

Using a master waveform captured from a reference coil, the ST4030A compares measured waveforms over a defined interval to calculate area differences. This method allows operators to quickly and accurately determine pass or fail conditions. Hioki’s proprietary waveform quantification technology further enhances defect detection by converting response waveforms into LC and RC values, enabling identification of single turn faults that are otherwise difficult to detect.

Detecting Hidden Insulation Defects

With the optional discharge detection upgrade, the ST4030A can diagnose pseudo shorts caused by microscopic partial discharges hidden within electrical noise. This capability is essential for identifying early stage insulation deterioration before it leads to catastrophic motor failure, especially in high performance applications such as electric vehicles and automated systems.
