Hioki is pleased to announce the launch of three sensor units: Models CT9555, CT9556, and CT9557. Hioki Launches Three Sensor Units High Precision Current Sensors

The CT9555 is two-thirds smaller than the legacy sensor unit by volume, while the CT9556 provides RMS output capability. Meanwhile, the CT9557 features aggregate functionality to facilitate the measurement of large currents in multi-cable circuits.

ROLE OF SENSOR UNITS
Sensor units are power supplies for high-precision current sensors that also provide waveform output functionality.

Hioki’s high-precision current sensors cannot be used on their own; instead, it is necessary to supply power to drive the sensor using one of these newly launched sensor units. Furthermore, since the sensor units are able to output waveform signals from the current sensors to which they are attached, they can be used in conjunction with a data recorder, power meter, or data logger to display and analyze those waveforms.

Enclosure that’s two-thirds smaller than the legacy product by volume – The CT9555 is two-thirds smaller and weighs 200g lighter than the legacy 9555-10 by volume. Its compact footprint offers increased convenience in operation and management.

Ability to generate RMS output
The CT9556 is a sensor unit that can also generate RMS output in addition to waveforms.  Use of a current sensor and data recorder to measure AC current levels requires an expensive recorder that provides advanced functionality for converting readings to RMS values. *RMS values: The strengths of AC current and voltage are not constant, but rather vary periodically with time. Consequently, the meaning of an RMS value can be expressed as follows: the RMS value expresses the strength of an AC voltage (current) as the DC voltage (current) at which a given resistance would consume the same amount of power as when the corresponding AC voltage (current) flows through it.  The voltage used to describe household electrical outlets in Japan (100 V AC) is an RMS value.

1. A 4-channel power supply

Current measurement often requires that multiple current lines be measured at the same time. Since the CT9557 can serve as a power supply for up to four current sensors, it allows operators to build simpler, cheaper systems than are possible if using four 1-channel CT9555 units. Hioki Launches Three Sensor Units High Precision Current Sensors

 2. Aggregate function for measuring large currents in multi-cable circuits in megasolar installations
At large-scale generating facilities such as megasolar installations, extremely large currents on the order of 1000A to 3000 A are split so that they flow through two to four cables, making it impossible to measure them with a single current sensor. Typically, individual cables’ current values are measured with separate current sensors, and either the customer adds together those measured values manually or utilizes the functionality of an instrument with enough channels to accommodate the number of current sensors being used to add the values.

The CT9557 delivers the ability to add together the signal waveforms from multiple current sensors in such applications. Since the current values measured for each branch cable are added together inside the CT9557 and output as a single signal, the troublesome addition process becomes unnecessary, and instruments need only use one channel of input. One application of this aggregate functionality is to simplify measurement of leakage currents in three-phase circuits.

TLS CORRECTOR MAGNET POWER SUPPLIES UPGRADE
Corrector magnets of TLS storage ring are served with linear power supplies (corrector magnet power supplies), with some modifications the long-term output current stability and ripple of these linear mode power supplies were improved from 500 ppm to 50 ppm[1][2][3]. But these linear mode power supplies are very low efficiency, low power factor and about 20Hz low frequency response bandwidth that waste power, noisy and unable to serve fast orbit correction. MCOR30 is a modular switching power converter with smaller volume, high efficiency and above 100Hz frequency response bandwidth, replacing these linear mode power supplies with MCOR30s that could save power and increasing orbit correction response.  Published MCOR Papers-Laboratories

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION A RESONANT DC POWER BUS
We design and implement a power convert to supply dc power bus for the MCOR30 correction supply. The dc power supply’s characteristics were variable frequency at heavy and medium/light load. These characteristics matched with the correction supply working requirement. The dc power bus has a relaxation oscillator generating a symmetrical triangular waveform, which MOSFET’s switching is locked to. The frequency of this waveform is related to a current that will be modulated by feedback circuitry. As a result, the tank circuit driven by half-bridge will be stimulated at a frequency dictated by the feedback loop to keep the output voltage regulated, thus exploiting its frequency-dependent transfer characteristics. The high performance characteristics of the resonant dc power bus are illustrated in this paper.

THE DC-MAGNET POWER SUPPLIES FOR THE LCLS INJECTOR
The injector section of the LCLS machine at SLAC [1] requires 100+ dc-magnet power supply systems for operation. Intermediate rack-mounted power supplies provide dipole, quadrupole and solenoid magnet power up to 20 kW at 375 A. A SLAC-developed Ethernet power supply controller interfaces to these commercially available power supplies. Smaller bipolar units rated 6A, 12A, and 30A provide power for small magnets such as correctors, dipoles, and quadrupoles. DACs and ADCs housed in VME crates control these power supplies. For all systems, stability requirements are better than 1000 ppm and EPICS is the controls interface. This paper describes the main hardware characteristics of the power supply systems.

Hioki launched the legacy RM3542, a high-speed resistance meter, in October 2009. The instrument, which brings world-class performance along with automatic, high speed functionality to shipping inspections of electronic components such as resistors when integrated into automated testing equipment, has gained a large base of satisfied customers since its launch. Electronic components have continued to shrink since the launch of the RM3542. In developing the RM3542A to accommodate these changes in the market, Hioki gave the new instrument the same features as the RM3542 along with a number of enhancements such as support for measuring the resistance of even more minuscule (0201 size) electronic components. Hioki Launches RM3542A Resistance Meter

RM3542A Features
1. Ability to measure the resistance of minuscule (0201 size) electronic components
With the 0201 size specification (0.2 × 0.1 mm), miniaturization of electronic components has proceeded to the point at which they can no longer be distinguished by the naked eye. When measuring such minuscule components, it is necessary to limit applied voltages. Since the RM3542A applies a voltage of 5 V or less, it can measure 0201 size electronic components, which have low voltage ratings, without placing a heavy load on the target component.

2. Limited variability thanks to extensive measurement range
Whereas the legacy RM3542 provided 10 measurement ranges, the RM3542A offers 16. Depending on the selected range, measured values may exhibit variability, leading to unstable measurement. By offering more measurement ranges, the RM3542A makes it more likely users will be able to select a range that suits the characteristics of their measurement target, limiting variability and enabling stable measurement.

Features Inherited from the RM3542
1. Super-high-speed, super-high-precision resistance measurement
DC four-terminal measurement makes it possible to measure electronic components at high speed and with a high degree of precision. Measurement times are as low as 0.9 ms (according to an internal Hioki study), making the instrument the fastest of its kind in the industry.  When configured with standard settings, the instrument delivers guaranteed accuracy of ±0.008% when measuring a 1kOhm resistance in FAST measurement mode (for a measurement time of 0.9 ms).

2. High-resolution, 7-digit display
The Resistance Meter RM3542A offers broad measurement coverage of 0 Ohms (0.0000 mOhms) to 120.0000 MOhms and a high-resolution, 7-digit display.

3. Contact check for highly reliable measurement
Thanks to its continuous contact check function, the RM3542A can continuously monitor whether the resistor or other measurement target is being measured properly. In the event of a measurement failure, the instrument’s voltage monitor function can detect the malfunction, and it can reliably repeat the measurement. Functionality such as this boosts measurement reliability.

4. Low-power resistance measurement 
From the 1000 mOhm range to the 1000 Ohm range, the RM3542A is capable of low-power resistance measurement with a limited measurement current. This capability makes it possible to measure the resistance of components such as chip inductors and anti-EMC components that must be measured at low current levels.

5. Ability to save and output measured values
The RM3542A can store up to 30,000 points of measurement data in its internal memory. Once measurement of one reel of chip resistors is complete, all data can be downloaded to a computer or other device, greatly aiding in quality control.
